McDermott Scholars Andrew Vaccaro (right) and Eric Chen do the Whoosh at the Hakone Shrine in Japan in 2015. After taking a class on fantasy in Japanese literature, Vaccaro joined Chen during a trek to the island nation to study the country’s culture and how it is portrayed in Japanese media.
