The Naveen Jindal School of Management has launched a virtual book club aiming to connect alumni, faculty and staff through a lifelong love of learning. Free and open to all UT Dallas alumni, the group will read a new book every two months from a variety of genres, including novels and nonfiction works on contemporary academics, personal growth and professional development.

The book club launched in July with the No. 1 New York Times bestseller “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World” by David Epstein. The reading period for the club’s second selection — “Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations” by Brené Brown — will begin on Oct. 15.

The Jindal School book club will begin reading their second book, “Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations” by Brené Brown, on Oct. 15.

“The JSOM book club is a great way to meet fellow alumni across industries and around the world,” said Caylin Blockley, director of alumni relations for the Jindal School. “Participants can network while enjoying good books and maintaining an active mind.”

Book discussions are organized through a private forum and overseen by moderators from PBC Guru who pose questions, share additional articles and facilitate conversations about thematic issues from the readings.

The flexibility of the club’s format is ideal for working professionals who want to engage with like-minded individuals about important topics. Books selected for the club take an average of nine hours to read, and participants can access discussion forums on their own schedules within the reading period.

“UT Dallas alumni don’t stop learning after they graduate,” Blockley said. “This book club helps virtually recreate our campus environment to generate new ideas, stimulate creative thought and challenge our perspectives.”

Alumni interested in participating in the club’s second reading selection should sign up online by Oct. 15.
