Dean Terry is an experimental transmedia artist whose areas of creative work and research include emerging technologies, AI, sound, and performance. He was a founding faculty member of ATEC in 2003, and was the founder and former Director of The Emerging Media and Communication (EMAC) program. Terry’s research labs have been supported by notable professional organizations such as Alcatel-Lucent, Texas Instruments, Ericsson, Samsung, and Apple.
Before academic life, Terry founded, managed, and ran a Los Angeles based creative agency which was acquired by AtomFilms, and subsequently sold to MTV/Viacom. Collaborators and partners included Microsoft, Warner Bros, Paramount, Yahoo, Nokia, Sony, KMPG and many others. His creative work has been covered internationally on CNN, ABC News, NPR, BBC, Los Angeles Times, Vice, Mashable, and shown at SXSW, ISEA, and other well-known conferences.
Terry is currently researching and writing a book on the creative process and emerging technologies and is scheduled to speak on creativity and artificial intelligence at SXSW in 2018. As Creative Director of Therefore Art & Performance Group, he has a new show debuting at the Winspear Opera House at AT&T Performing Arts Center in May 2018.
