Associate Professor of Practice
Nelson Lim is a husband, dad and creative technologist. An expert in the fields of Visual Effects, Animation and Games, he has over a decade of experience in the field of computer graphics.
After graduating from the National University of Singapore, where he studied Computer Science and New Media, Nelson joined Lucasfilm in 2010. During his time at Lucasfilm, he served as a Technical Director and worked on a variety of projects including Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Battleship, Marvel’s The Avengers, Pacific Rim, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Warcraft.
Prior to joining UTD, Nelson was at Brazen Animation, where he spear-headed the development of the 3D and Technology departments. From 2015 to 2019, he led and supervised artists and developers on numerous cinematics, commercials and AR/VR experiences for clients including Epic Games, Riot Games, Pocket Gems, McDonalds and Under Armour.
Nelson also speaks, consults and creates content for computer graphics practitioners, universities, conferences, research organizations, games and film industries. He is a member of both the Visual Effects Society and Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics(ACM SIGGRAPH).
When not involved in art and technology, Nelson enjoys baking artisan bread, afternoon teas, and picnics with his family.
