The Modern in Fort Worth offers an art show from the comfort of your car
The Modern Billings program provides billboard space to area grad students.
The fourth round of Modern Billings, curated by the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth puts artists’ work on billboards using space from Clear Channel Outdoor. This current round features work by graduate art students at area schools including ATEC Grad student Phillip Martin from the University of Texas at Dallas.
There is something charming about ATEC Graduate student Philip Martin’s inversion of the typical Google map in his billboard You Are Here. It features a view of the Earth from space and has a large drop pin logo and the intersection’s street details, Milam Street and Lancaster Avenue, as text on the image. Located across the street from the Country Meat Market, the piece condenses both site-specificity and the grandiosity of the cosmos — and our place in it — into a clean, lovely image.
