Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who is eligible?
Teams must be composed of currently registered UT Dallas students. Students from all UT Dallas schools and all levels of study, graduate or undergraduate, are eligible. Team members may not be currently employed in the computer game industry.
Q: Can I enter the competiton if I am a former UTD student?
All team members must be currently enrolled students at UT Dallas.
Q: How many members can be in a team?
Teams are limited to three to eight members. Substitutions will be allowed at the discretion of the competition coordinators.
Q: Does every team member have to attend the orientation session on October 5th?
Yes. If one of your teammates is unable to attend orientation, please contact the competition coordinators.
Q: Can I join more than one team?
No. Given the level of commitment required from each team and the nature of the competition, you must sign up for one team only.
Q: What constitutes a "mod"?
This competition makes a distinction between "mod" and "total conversion." Creating a level for the game Doom 3 using Id's assets and gameplay is not acceptable. Creating a demo for an original game with your own assets and gameplay using the Doom 3 engine is perfectly fine.
Q: Will you critique our game during the competition process?
The competition coordinators will make themselves equally available to all teams during the competition process. We will not serve as coaches, advisers, or in any way assist your team with development or design, but we will be available for questions, advice, and general guidance.
Q: Can we add team members after the Orientation date?
Additions and substitutions to your team roster will occur at the discretion of the competition coordinators.
Q: Do I have to be a student during the entire competition?
Competitors must be currently registered UTD students. If one of your teammates is graduating in Fall 07 and not returning to the university in Spring 08, please contact the competition coordinators.
Q: What if I want to compete and can't find a team?
If you are having difficulty finding or creating a team, please contact one of the competition coordinators, and we will do our best to assist you.

Orientation at 5:00 PM in the Arts and Technology Conference Room (ATEC 1.606). All student team members must attend and turn in paperwork at this meeting. |
Dec. 3: |
Benchmark documentation, including business plan overview and game concept overview, is due at 5 PM. Teams that do not reach this deadline will be disqualified. |
April 4, '08: |
Competition submissions are due at 5 PM. |
April 24: |
First, second, and third prizes and the innovation bonus award presented at reception and project showcase. |
